The map of the wilderness area in which we hiked this year.
Our pastor, Charlie Hartman, has been leading groups into the backcountry areas of New England for about 30 years. Over those years he has climbed the 100 highest peaks and traveled to very special places. The challenges of wilderness hiking and camping build self esteem and promote self confidence. Being in God's wilderness is essentially a spiritual experience. In our day of electronic over-stimulation and ecological vulnerability, there is nothing that teaches us respect for our earth better than being "away from it all!" Each year we choose a different location and invite interested people of all ages to join us.

Our annual foray into the wilderness for 2009 will be another "Kidspedition." After our successful and enjoyable trip last year (see below) we will continue to invite kids of all ages to share in a wilderness experience again this summer. "Kidspedition" is an effort to expose kids from 5 on up to wilderness living at its best. We are now anticipating that our destination will be the The Presidential area in NH. From a base camp (close to vehicles) we will offer both short and long hikes to suit several levels of experience and ambition. Any parent who is interested please, let Charlie know. Any youth or other adult who wishes to come with us is welcome. We always have a lot of fun.

Plans are all laid in for  "Kidspedition 2011" are Tuesday July 19 through Friday, July 22. We will be returning to the Moosebrook State Park in NH as our base camp.

We will choose from the great variety of trails that are in the Presidential area to hike. Each hike will be chosen to be age and fitness appropriate.  Costs are minimal and shared. Equipment can be borrowed or rented for those new to the sport. Let us know immediately if you are interested because we keep the group small and will need to make appropriate reservations.

Reservations are accomplished by each participating family through NH State Parks. This can be quickly done on line.

Pictures on this page are from the past few years. If you want to join us and have your picture posted...call Charlie asap!

The intense commaraderie and community that is created by spending time in the wilderness has long been understood. Our program of wilderness hiking and camping allows us to create the bonds of affection and the special memories that exemplify healthy families, The wonder and marvel of being in God's great creation is never lost on young people. The challenges of life removed from the comforts of home promote self awareness and a deeper understanding of modern life. This is why we give such a priority to this ministry.

Cooking and other equipment items may be borrowed, rented or shared. For information call Charlie at the church office: 508.379.9728 as soon as possible as we are now planning next years KIDSPEDITION!

Kidspedition is an inter generational experience that includes multi-generations. It brings grand/kids, grand/parents, and friends into a special relationship that only happens in the woods, on hikes. stepping across the stones of a mountain brook and around a campfire. We offer this program as a unique way to enrich families.

Our Kidspedition 10 was a great success. We returned to Moose Brook State Park, just outside Gorham, NH because we could camp on a grassy field, and take advantage of the amenities of car camping: hot showers, running water close by and  flushj toilets!  This year we had kids from 3 1/2 to 68. We did two 3.5 mile  hikes to Dome Rock and to Pine Mt.. We had  good views and  splashing mountain brooks to play in. We had good weather, good food and lots of fun. All returned home happy and healthy! Another great time in God's great wilderness!

Kidspedition 11: Another success!

12 people from 5-67 gathered at Moose Brook again. Hikes to "White Rock Cliff" and into Moriah Brook were enjoyed by all. The weather was favorable through out our stay and while we were there, we celebrated Charlie's 65th birthday with brownies at our lunch stop on White Rock Cliff. Again it was a time of great family fellowship and fun. There is nothing like spending time with your kids in the woods!
